Rocketship Ride
Hi Team.
This week, we had a brilliant session with a brilliant mind. We attended a talk with Mark D’Arcy, Chief Creative Officer of Facebook in the morning, and then Mark was wonderful enough to come visit us at our own Lewis Road Creamery global headquarters later on. I want to share with you some of his pearls of sagacity.
While he applied his insights to the sometimes-nebulous world of social networking, they can indeed be applied to all areas of our company.
The four cornerstones of a business, Mark related, are: Solutions, People, Partnerships, and Creativity.
Creativity unlocks the value of any platform. No matter what challenge you may be presented with (and I’ve said this before), the best solutions are ones that involve out-of-the-box thinking, as they reveal other opportunities for growth that may not have been inherently obvious. The stagnant status quo you deal with every day may be ripe for improvement - only you are holding back its potential. Allow this creative problem-solving to mirror our foundational mission.
At first, Mark was hesitant about accepting a role at Facebook, as he was unsure of the value he’d bring to the (at the time) small company. However, a few words from Sheryl Sandberg made his decision clear as crystal:
"When you get offered a ride on a rocket ship, you don’t ask what seat."
Sometimes you need to take a step back and realise you’re one of the brave ones, lucky enough to be soaring through an amazing galaxy at light-speed.
So, to the Lewis Road crew - thanks for your work this week and have a wonderful weekend refueling for a cracker of an upcoming Monday.
